Our God & Savior

God is the Creator of heaven and earth.  He spoke everything into existence in six days, and He created the first man and woman in His image as living souls (conscious moral agents) to have a personal relationship with Him.  God is loving and gave man the choice to love, trust, and obey our Maker by following His one commandment – not to eat fruit from one tree.  Adam and Eve (the first man and woman) rejected God and His will for them by eating of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.  Man became sinful and mortal.  God did not give up on us, and through Jesus Christ provided a way for us to have a relationship with Him that satisfies His perfection and purity and saves us from ruin.

Our Heartbeat & Mission

Our Mission Statement says,

“Believing God that our greatest privilege and responsibility is to make disciples of our family, friends and acquaintances in Pensacola and throughout the world, we will focus our worship, preaching, teaching, fellowship, giving and outreach towards motivating and equipping each other to faithfully follow God’s leading in this task.”

That statement drives each aspect of the ministry of Faith Baptist Church.  Our greatest desire is to know God and make Him known.  The fulfillment of that mission and desire is seen in our adherence to God’s Word, and its centrality in all of our preaching and teaching.  Whether it be the exposition of the Word in preaching or careful teaching of the Bible and its principles in all of our ministries, our focus is on what God says and our faithful obedience to Him.  That is why Faith Baptist Church exists.

Our Identity & Personality

The Bible compares the church to a family.  Family – it’s a great word to describe our church.  We are people of different ages, backgrounds, and many walks of life who have trusted in Christ alone to restore us to God and make us His children.  We have been born again into the family of God.  Faith Baptist Church is people.  We genuinely love and care for each other; we pray for and support one another.  We encourage one another in our walk with God, and to that end we gather together to hear practical sermons or lessons from God’s Word, to pray, and to praise, honor, and worship God through our giving and singing.  We have chosen to draw on our rich heritage of Christian music by singing hymns accompanied beautifully by our orchestra.  This musical core is accented by a sprinkling of Christ honoring choruses, and select instrumental and vocal selections shared by our choir, individuals, and ensembles.  Like a family, in addition to worshiping, learning, serving, and growing together, we also like having fun together.  From concerts to dinner theaters to the church picnic to thanksgiving dinner we have great time sharing our lives together – we’re family.  We are an unaffiliated, non-denominational Baptist church.  This allows us the flexibility to follow God’s leading in conducting our ministry, calling our pastors, and partnering with the missionaries and ministries of our choice.

Our Beliefs

The Scriptures

We believe the Scriptures, being the 66 books of the Old and New Testaments, to be the inspired Word of God, completely inerrant in the original writings, and absolutely authoritative and infallible. (2 Timothy 3:16, 17; 2 Peter 1:21; Proverbs 30:5,6)

The True God

We believe there is one God eternally existent in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:19; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 John 5:7)

God the Father

We believe in God the Father, Creator and Sustainer of all things visible and invisible, Who is True Holiness, Eternal Power, Infinite Love, Perfect Justice, and Absolute Truth. (Genesis 1:1; Leviticus 19:2; Romans 1:20; 3:26; Titus 1:2; I John 4:8,9)

God the Son

We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death on the cross, in the shedding of His precious blood for the remission of sin, in His bodily resurrection and ascension to the right hand of God the Father where He ever lives to make intercession for the saints, in His pre-tribulational and pre-millennial coming for His own, and in His return to earth to reign in power and glory for a thousand years. (Zechariah 14:4-9; Matthew 1:18,22,23; Matthew 28:6; John 1:14; John 3:16; Acts 1:9-11; Acts 10:38; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 7:25)

God the Holy Spirit

We believe that the Holy Spirit, or Holy Ghost, is the divine person Who moved holy men of God to write the Scriptures, Who convicts of sin, Who quickens in the new birth, Who seals the true believer unto the day of redemption, and Who indwells the believer with power of holy living and service. (John 14:16,17; John 16:8,9; Acts 1:8; Romans 8:11; Ephesians 1:13,14; Ephesians 4:30; 2 Peter 1:21)

The Devil (Satan)

We believe that Satan, as Lucifer, was cast out of Heaven along with his angels as rebels against God who were and are desirous of overthrowing God and His authority. We believe in the distinct personality of Satan, that he is the ruler of the darkness of this world, author of all sin, a tempter and accuser of the saints, and destined to the judgment of an eternal punishment in the lake of fire. (Isaiah 14:9-15; Matthew 4:1-11; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Revelation 20:10)

The Creation

We believe that God created the heavens and the earth, including all of life, by direct act and not by a process of evolution in any form. We believe in six literal days of creation, each being 24 hours in length. (Genesis 1; Genesis 2; John 1:1-3; Colossians 1:16,17)

The Fall of Man

We believe that man, in the person of the first Adam, was created in innocence in the image of God. By voluntary transgression Adam fell into sin, thus plunging the whole race into condemnation and death, so that all mankind is born in sin and shaped in iniquity. Men become practical sinners with the first expression of personal choice, not by constraint, but by choice, and so are without excuse before God. (Genesis 3; Psalm 51:5; John 3:18; Romans 5:8-19; Revelation 20:11-15)

The Atonement for Sin

We believe that the only escape from the condemnation of sin is through the atonement wrought by Jesus Christ when He voluntarily took upon Him a human body, yet without sin, and by His suffering, shedding of blood, death, and resurrection. In so doing, He made full satisfaction to the justice of God for the sin of man. The blessings of salvation are given on the grounds of grace to all who believe by faith, not of works. It is the duty of all to receive God’s offer of mercy.  We further believe that all who trust Christ as Savior are born from above and are eternally secure in Christ. (John 1:1-3,14; John 3:1-7,16; John 10:28,29; Acts 16:30-33; Romans 8:25-29; Romans 10:9-13; 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:8,9; Philippians 1:6; Hebrews 10:4-14; 1 John 5:10-13)

Our Story

Faith Baptist Church was formally organized on March 5, 1961. Dr. Dolphus Price became the first pastor in June of 1961. The church purchased the present property and dedicated the new facilities on July 7, 1963. Dr. Price remained as pastor for 6 years before entering full-time evangelism. He was followed by Dr. Earl Little who pastored for 3 years. During his pastorate, the pre-school/office building was built. Next, Rev. Larry Karsies pastored for 2 years. Rev. John Detwiler served as pastor from July 1973 to August 1977. Pastor Meloy began pastoring here on March 12, 1978. The fellowship hall/classroom addition was dedicated in August 1992. Pastor Richard Meloy retired February 18, 2007. The Lord brought Pastor Jeff Bailie to Faith on March 18, 2007.  Our Spanish ministry, Iglesia Bautista Fe, began holding services in early 2015.  We are privileged to support many missionary families and organizations around the US and the world, including a church plant in Round Rock, Texas.

We praise the Lord for the ministry of Faith Baptist Church and for the work of God in the lives of many who have been part of our church over the years. We purpose to continue to shine for God’s glory and to share the good news of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
