Get to Know God

God’s Story

The Bible opens with, “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth”.  The story of God’s relationship with man opens with His creating the entire universe and placing the first man and woman in a beautiful flawless garden where they enjoyed perfect peace and harmony with God and each other. That perfect peace didn’t last and we live in bodies and a world afflicted by war, disease, and death. Watch The Story for a brief overview of how mankind alienated themselves from God, and the way God has provided to restore us to Himself.

Our Faith Stories

If you were at odds with a friend because they had betrayed you, there would be an awkwardness, an elephant in the room so to speak. That offense would have to be dealt with before there could be peace or harmony in the relationship. The Bible tells us that mankind has offended and wronged God, and broken His law. For example, we have all lied and that estranges us from God who is truth. For all humanity there is an elephant in the room that keeps us at a distance from God and makes it impossible to know Him. The Bible calls this elephant – sin. What do you think it takes to have a personal relationship with God and live with Him in heaven forever? That’s a hard question when you realize how huge that elephant called “sin” really is. Thankfully, in the Bible God tells us His amazing story of rescue – the one you just heard about if you watched the video above. Through Jesus Christ, God made a way for us to have peace and a harmonious relationship with Him. He has made a way for us to become His children and live with Him forever in heaven. No one is born a Christian. Each of us must make the personal choice to depend on Jesus Christ alone to save us from death and judgment and make God’s story of rescue our own. We at Faith Baptist Church are just ordinary folk – real people who came to see that we had broken God’s laws and there was nothing we could do to pay for our sins and earn eternal life. We needed a Savior, and we would like to share with you a few stories of how God has changed our lives.

Tom shares his story of how, in the Saraha dessert, he finally realized that he couldn’t earn God’s favor, and didn’t have to clean up his life to get God’s forgiveness.  He came as he was, and God took care of the rest.

Alex found freedom from the guilt and fear of pretending to be someone he wasn’t when he chose to trust Christ alone to pardon his sins.

Paul tells of the time, when as a teenager, he came to realize that eternal life is something that lasts forever – not something here today and gone tomorrow.

Relationship with God

Our greatest desire is to know God and make Him known. We want to know God in more than a factual and theoretical way; we want to get know Him through a personal living relationship. How would you describe your relationship with God? Is it close and personal or awkward and distant? Do you know Him well or does He feel more like a stranger? Just as you get to know a new friend through time, conversation, and personal disclosure (you share your heart and they share theirs); we have to talk to God and hear from Him. God is invisible and infinitely beyond our understanding. We are not going to figure Him out on our own. How can the finite comprehend the infinite, the temporal the eternal, or the mortal the immortal? Thankfully, God has told us who He is. He hasn’t left us guessing. He has revealed Himself through the Bible. In this video Jeff Musgrave shares four Bible truths about God to help you better understand Him and His dealings with us.  Will you please take the time to let him share with you from the Bible how you can have a personal relationship with God, know for sure that your sins are forgiven, and know that you will live with God forever in heaven?

Thank you for taking the time to watch this video about God’s exchange of our sin for Christ’s righteousness. How does the two thousand year old death of a Jewish carpenter affect you? It’s what Christ has Done for you that matters. We would like to offer you the e-book Done as a free gift to help further explain exactly what Christ has done for you.

The Next Step

Jesus compared entering into a personal relationship with God to a new or heavenly birth. He told Nicodemus that to see the kingdom of God, “You must be born again.” If you have depended upon Christ alone to save you, you have been born again, given the gift of eternal life, and have been made a child of God. You have a new life and a new family. You might be asking, “Now what?” “What’s the next step?” Newborns have an insatiable thirst and are given milk to sustain them and help them grow. As a spiritual newborn, desire the milk of God’s Word that you may grow thereby (1 Pet. 2:2). Through reading the Bible you will come to know God, His ways in the world, and His will for you. We would like to give you a special chronological, abridged edition of the Bible called “The Story” to help you more easily see God’s plan for the ages and your place in it.

No baby was meant to grow up alone. They need nurture, care, and guidance from a family who loves them.  Spiritually, God has provided you with a family called the church to help you grow. Our church family would love to help you and walk with you on your spiritual journey as you grow in your relationship with God.
